Brette PopperYoga, Pranayama, Meditation
Yoga is a practice for everybody in Every Body.
Through the ages, texts have described the body as a field that requires regular ploughing, a cloth that is meticulously woven or a pot that is strengthened to hold the process of transformation.
Since everyone’s field, cloth and pot are different, I see my role as a teacher to introduce you to postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques that you can use on your individual journey.
The sequences I design combine movement and help postures. Classes encourage balance, strength and flexibility. I use philosophic, alignment and anatomical references to help students deepen their understanding and frequently use props like blankets, blocks, belts and bolsters to increase perception.
My own yoga journey began in 2000 after a long business career: when I left my position as COO of a small publishing company and wandered into a neighbourhood yoga studio. I fell in love with the practice, rediscovering my body after years of living in my head.
My first yoga certification was completed with Alison West’s Yoga Union in 2005. I have been a Yoga Alliance registered 500 E-RYT for over a decade. I’ve also completed over 2,000 hours of certified training, working with several yoga lineages, therapeutic and healing modalities. I currently take classes in Yogic Philosophy, Breathing Techniques, Sanskrit, Tai Chi and Buddhism.
A native New Yorker, where I still lie and teach, I am engaged in art, nature, scriptural studies and the world around us.
I look forward to meeting you wherever you are.
